Solar Rais launches the Women for Green Jobs (W4GJ) programme, an initiative aimed at empowering unemployed female youth in South Africa by creating 50 jobs in the renewable energy e-mobility sector. Powered by Shortlist and GEAPP, this initiative is poised to make a significant impact on both gender equality and sustainable development.
Through a cohort-based programme running in short cycles, individuals will gain essential industry knowledge in electric energy production, e-transportation, eco-tourism, and carbon tax. These skills will enable them to secure job roles in the e-mobility sector, effectively addressing energy, gender, climate change, and employment challenges, thereby reducing multidimensional poverty.

ABOUT THE PROGRAMME
This initiative offers a unique opportunity for women who are passionate about environmental sustainability and technological innovation to gain valuable skills and experience in the rapidly evolving e-mobility industry. Whether you’re a matriculant, recent graduate, a career changer, or someone with relevant experience looking to transition into renewable energy e-mobility, this program is designed to support your professional growth and make a meaningful impact.
Over 50% of South Africa’s Greenhouse gas emissions are from the energy and transport sector combined. Maybe you have an idea to solve this and want a job opportunity as a professional e-mobility worker.
- Females aged 18-34 years.
- Must have completed Matric.
- Interested in Renewable Energy E-mobility.
- Be living in Gauteng during the course of programme up to 3-months.

How will participants benefit from Women For Green Jobs?
Individuals in the programme will benefit from comprehensive training in e-mobility, including technical skills development, soft skills training, and job placement support. They will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the rapidly growing field of e-mobility, access job opportunities with industry partners, and contribute to SDG 5 & SDG 7, to the transition towards a more sustainable transportation system.
A stipend will be given to successful applicants in Johannesburg, South Africa during training until job placement during the programme.
What are the selection criteria for participants in Women For Green Jobs?
Participants will be selected based on a combination of factors, including educational qualifications, interest and motivation in pursuing a career in e-mobility, and commitment to the goals of the initiative.
Additionally, consideration will be given to promoting diversity and inclusivity, ensuring equal opportunities for all qualified candidates, and fostering a supportive learning environment for participants.
What is the duration of the Women For Green Jobs Programme, and what are the key phases of the program?
Women For Green Jobs is a three (3) month programme that may end sooner if 50 candidates accept job offers. It consists of several key phases including application, screening interviews, training, job placement, and monitoring and evaluation. Each phase is designed to ensure that participants receive thorough preparation and support as they transition into roles within the green jobs sector.
